If you need help bulking up (clean/traditional) or getting enough calories, you could give homemade weightgainer recipes a try.

They are easy to made, easy to digest and more potent and healthier than commercial ones.

There are a lot of commercial weightgainers out there but I would advise you to stay clear, unless you want to gain weight around your tummy.

Homemade Weightgainer Recipes #1 – Vince Del Monte’s

 

 

Here’s what you will need:

  • Three-four large 1 L water bottles
  • A blender
  • Couple bags of frozen berries
  • A tub of natural peanut butter
  • A tub of protein powder
  • A few bags of low fat milk
  • 10 minutes of your day

No, you are not mixing all these ingredients exactly but you can mix the following:

  • 1-3 cups of low fat milk – 300 calories
  • 1-2 cups of mixed berries – 200 calories
  • 40-60 grams of protein powder – 160-240 calories
  • 1-2 tbsp of natural peanut butter – 200 calories

Total CLEAN calories: 800.

Healthy? Yes. No junk sugars and no bad fats. Cheap? Yes. Potent? Yes.

This is a good homemade weightgainer recipe for you to start from.

Homemade Weightgainer Recipes #2-4 – Arnold Schwarzenegger’s

 

 

Level 1: (50 grams of protein)

  • 20 ounces of milk
  • 4 ounces of cream (or an ounce of olive oil and 3 ounces of water)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoon lecithin granules (as an emulsifier)
  • 1/2 cup of protein powder
  • Flavouring

 

 

Level 2: (72 grams of protein)

  • 16 ounces of milk
  • 6 ounces of cream (or an ounce of olive oil and 3 ounces of water)
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 tablespoon lecithin granules (as an emulsifier)
  • 1/2 cup of protein powder
  • Flavouring

 

 

Level 3: (98 grams of protein)

  • 16 ounces of milk
  • 8 ounces of cream (or an ounce of olive oil and 3 ounces of water)
  • 6 eggs
  • 6 tablespoon lecithin granules (as an emulsifier)
  • 3/4 cup of protein powder
  • Flavouring

Blend the milk, cream, eggs and lecithin.

When the lecithin dissolves, blend in the protein powder. You can use fruits for flavouring these homemade weightgainer recipes.

  1. I totally agree. I used to drink those commercial weightgainers and I got quite some fats stored at my tummy too. You sure these homemade weightgainers will be better?

    • DEFINTELY CARLOS! avoid commercial weightgainers at all cost. I think it’s a waste of money especially since it’s unhealthy due to the poor quality of sugar used.

      And the point of commercial weightgainers is that they stuff you with so many calories that it leads to a lot of excess calories that you wont use. These calories will then be converted into fats, and you’ll then become “skinny fat”. Stay well clear.

  2. Do I make these and drink them everyday?
    How many calories is the Arnold version? It is unhealthy to drink raw eggs?

      Definitely don’t make all and drink everyday! You will get too much unwanted fats this way.

      Regarding whether you should drink them everyday, do check out my comment to your other question on gaining weight healthily.

      Basically, weight gainers are just a convenient way to put on some calories. Do you require them? Only by calculating your calorie needs and your calorie intake will you know the answer. The rule of thumb though, is to get your calories from whole foods.

      It isn’t unhealthy to drink raw eggs, it’s more of a preference thing. so it’s up to you :)

  3. I’m trying to limit animal products a much as possible. Would almond, rice, or soy milk be just as efficient?

  4. oh snap It is so cool that you can make weight gainers yourself but from what I gather I will need to use a protein powder. I am currently not on supplementation and have been making good gains, but I invest in some whey protein soon, because it seems like all the guys with awesome, fitness model physiques are using it. Not to say one cannot get there without the use of protein powder, I guess it makes things abit easier.

  5. hi there i had a question i am 17 years old and started to work out in school at weight training class started at 137 pounds and saw that i did gain about a pound then i just hit the pleateu because i think i didnt eat as many calories as i burned so i wanted to gain 10 -20 pounds over time and just wanted to know where to start.
    What i should start eat more of and also can i just gain some weight and start to workout once ive gained atleast 3-4 pounds or would i have to work out along with taking the Vince Del Montes shake and meals of the day
