Dymatize Elite Casein Protein Review
Before going into a deep dive review of the Dymatize Elite Casein Protein, click this link to find out everything about casein protein (key benefit: slow digesting protein for greater muscle retention).
To be honest, you do not need any muscle building supplements to build muscles.
Supplements are just that, they are supposed to supplement, not replace.
Not replacing calories, good calories, proper training and proper rest.
However, if you have read the link I provided above, then you will know the importance of casein in helping us maintain our hard earned muscle mass.
And I believe the best casein protein in the market today is the Dymatize Elite Casein Protein.
The Dymatize Elite Casein Protein is a really good product which I found out recently, having swopped over from using Optimum Nutrition’s one in the past.
I give this a rating of
- Value: 10/10
- Taste: 9/10
- Mixability: 9/10
- Overall: 9.5/10
1. Value: 10/10
Looking at the composition, Dymatize’s product is made up of 25g of protein in a 34.2g serving. This is a very good ratio in the market and will help you achieve your protein needs. Go any higher and taste will suffer.
The one thing that stands out for me here is the low amount of sodium – only 95mg per serving. Optimum Nutrition’s creamy vanilla has 240mg per serving! To be fair, Optimum’s raspberry smoothie (75mg) and strawberry cream (90mg) have lower levels too.
Do note however, that different flavours have different levels of sodium. Smooth vanilla has the lowest at 95mg for Dymatize.
As for effectiveness, the Dymatize Elite Casein Protein does do its work, as I do not feel hungry at all when I wake up (used it before I sleep) and fills me up in other situations. Thus, catabolic (muscle destroying) states are avoided with my muscles retained.
It becomes especially useful and convenient when I know I do not have access to real food for a long period of time. Just one scoop, mix it and that’s enough.
It is slightly cheaper than Optimum’s one as well. Dymatize Elite Casein Protein is around $50 for 56 servings (4lbs package) vs Optimum’s $53 for 55 servings (4lbs package). You can get the 2lbs package as well though that would be slightly more costly.
2. Taste: 9/10
Taste wise, not super amazing, but rather good enough for me to look forward to drinking it.
There are 4 flavours to choose from: chocolate peanut butter, cookies and cream, rich chocolate and smooth vanilla.
Have tried cookies and cream and it tastes great! But there’s 160mg of sodium per serving and that’s why I have swapped to smooth vanilla instead (95mg only).
3. Mixability: 9/10
Good enough, but not perfect.
4. Overall: 9.5/10
Having tried a few casein products, I think the Dymatize Elite Casein Protein is a really impressive product.
Of course, it is not perfect, but it represents very good value to me. Reasonable price, decent taste and mixability and excellent results.
I recommend using it along with the Optimum Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein.
Use the Optimum Whey Protein after waking up and after workouts. Use Dymatize Elite Casein Protein before sleep and during long periods where you go without food.
